JEWELRY CARE GUIDE

HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR JEWELRY
Use this guide for care tips by material.
HOW TO WEAR
- The more intentional you are about caring for your jewelry, the longer it will last.
- Remove your jewelry before doing any activity that risks physical damage.
- As a general care tip, your jewelry should be the last thing you put on before going out and the first thing you remove upon coming home.
HOW TO STORE
- When not being worn, store in a safe, dry place to protect against the elements of daily exposure.
- Store pieces separately to avoid damage.
- Ensure pieces are completely dry before storing.
- Certain metals, like vermeil and sterling silver, can be prone to tarnishing. Rather than the packaging that came with your purchase, we recommend storing your pieces in our Leather Jewelry Boxes, which are lined with an anti-tarnish microsuede fabric that makes care and cleaning even easier.
HOW TO CLEAN
- Proactive maintenance is the easiest way to care for your jewelry.
- Regularly cleaning your pieces helps to avoid the residue buildup that can dull the original shine.
ABOUT THE MATERIALS
What kind of material is my jewelry?
What it is:
Solid gold jewelry is made from gold alloyed with other metals to increase strength and durability.
-
14K gold = 58.5% pure gold (more durable for everyday wear)
-
18K gold = 75% pure gold (richer color, slightly softer)
White gold is gold alloyed with light-colored metals, while yellow gold keeps the classic warm tone.
Why we use it:
-
Does not rust or corrode
-
Keeps its value and beauty over time
-
Perfect for everyday fine jewelry and heirloom pieces
-
Hypoallergenic for most people (especially higher karats)
Care & storage:
-
Clean with warm water, mild soap, and a soft cloth
-
Store separately to avoid scratches
-
Avoid harsh chemicals (chlorine, strong cleaners)
Good to know:
Solid gold is not plated—what you see is gold all the way through. It can last a lifetime (and beyond).
What it is:
A high-grade, durable metal known for strength and resistance to rust and tarnish.
Why we use it:
-
Extremely durable and scratch-resistant
-
Does not rust or oxidize
-
Great for everyday, active lifestyles
-
Affordable and low-maintenance
-
Hypoallergenic for most people
Care & storage:
-
Wipe with a soft cloth
-
Can be cleaned with mild soap and water
-
Store dry, no special care needed
Good to know:
Stainless steel keeps its color and shine with minimal effort—perfect for worry-free everyday jewelry.
What it is:
Sterling silver is made of 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% other metals (usually copper) for strength.
Why we use it:
-
Beautiful, bright white shine
-
High-quality precious metal
-
Perfect base for both silver and gold-plated jewelry
-
Great balance of luxury and affordability
Care & storage:
-
Silver can naturally tarnish over time (this is normal)
-
Clean with a silver polishing cloth
-
Store in a dry, airtight pouch or box
-
Avoid moisture and chemicals
Good to know:
Tarnish is not damage—it’s reversible. A quick polish brings silver back to life ✨
What it is:
Plated jewelry has a base metal (such as sterling silver, stainless steel, or brass) coated with a thin layer of gold or rhodium (a bright, white precious metal from the platinum family).
Base materials can include:
-
Sterling silver
-
Stainless steel
-
Brass (often used for complex shapes and structures)
Why we use it:
-
Allows beautiful gold or white finishes at a more accessible price
-
Great for trendy, statement, and fashion pieces
-
Rhodium plating adds extra shine and tarnish resistance
Care & storage:
-
Avoid water, perfume, lotions, and chemicals
-
Remove before showering, swimming, or exercising
-
Store separately in a soft pouch
-
Gently wipe after wearing
Good to know:
Plating can wear off over time depending on use and care—but with gentle handling, it stays beautiful much longer.
What it is:
Zircon is a natural gemstone (not to be confused with cubic zirconia). It has beautiful sparkle and comes in many colors.
Why we use it:
-
Natural brilliance and fire
-
Elegant, diamond-like look
-
We select only high-quality, well-cut stones for maximum shine
Care:
-
Avoid hard impacts
-
Clean with a soft cloth and mild soap
Colored Zircons
What they are:
Natural or treated zircons in various colors (blue, green, champagne, etc.).
Why we use them:
-
Rich colors and lively sparkle
-
Perfect for adding personality and color to designs
-
Carefully selected for clarity and brightness
What it is:
5A zircon is a premium-grade cubic zirconia, chosen for exceptional clarity, cut, and brilliance. “5A” refers to the highest quality grading in cubic zirconia stones.
Why we use it:
-
Extremely diamond-like sparkle
-
Flawless appearance to the naked eye
-
More affordable than diamonds
-
Very consistent quality and shine
-
Perfect for bold, glamorous designs
Care:
-
Clean with mild soap and soft cloth
-
Avoid harsh chemicals
-
Store separately to avoid scratches
Good to know:
5A zircon is not glass or “cheap stone”—it’s a high-quality, precision-cut crystal designed to maximize brilliance and beauty.
What it is:
Moissanite is a lab-created gemstone known for incredible brilliance and fire—often even more sparkly than a diamond.
Why we use it:
-
Extremely durable (9.25 on Mohs scale, just below diamond)
-
More sparkle and fire than diamond
-
Ethically produced and eco-conscious
-
Excellent value for a luxury look
Care:
-
Very easy to maintain
-
Clean with soap and water or a soft cloth
-
Resistant to scratches and daily wear
Good to know:
Moissanite is not cubic zirconia. It’s a premium gemstone in its own category, loved for its durability and intense sparkle.
What they are:
Natural or lab-grown diamonds, available in different shapes (round, oval, pear, emerald, etc.).
Why we use them:
-
The ultimate symbol of durability and luxury
-
Timeless beauty
-
Extremely hard and long-lasting
-
Each diamond is unique
Care:
-
Clean regularly to keep brilliance
-
Store separately from other jewelry
-
Avoid hard impacts, even though diamonds are very hard
We also use carefully selected natural stones such as:
-
Amethyst
-
Quartz
-
Emerald
-
Hematite
-
Tiger’s Eye
-
Turquoise
Why we use them:
-
Each stone has unique color, character, and energy
-
Adds personality and individuality to designs
-
No two stones are exactly the same
Care:
-
Some stones are softer than others
-
Avoid impacts, chemicals, and prolonged water exposure
-
Store separately and gently
What we offer:
-
Freshwater pearls – classic, elegant, and versatile
-
Baroque pearls – organic, irregular shapes with unique character
What’s the difference?
-
Freshwater pearls can be round or slightly irregular, grown in freshwater mussels
-
Baroque pearls are intentionally irregular—each piece is truly one of a kind
How pearls are strung:
Traditionally, pearls are strung on silk thread, often knotted between each pearl for protection and longevity.
Care:
-
Pearls are organic and softer than gemstones
-
Put them on last, take them off first
-
Avoid perfume, hairspray, and chemicals
-
Wipe gently after wearing
-
Store separately in a soft pouch
Good to know:
Pearls love to be worn—but they need gentle care to stay luminous and beautiful.
What they are:
Some jewelry components (like complex shapes, cuffs, or structured pieces such as cufflinks) are made from brass or other metal alloys and then plated.
Why we use them:
-
Brass is excellent for detailed, strong structures
-
Allows complex designs that wouldn’t be practical in solid precious metals
-
Often used as a base for gold or rhodium plating
-
Many classic jewelry pieces worldwide are made this way
Good to know:
For example, cufflinks are rarely made from solid steel or solid gold—they usually use a strong base metal for structure, then receive a high-quality finish.
